When we set out to create a read-along series for children, we wanted to make sure that we weren’t replacing precious book time with more screen time. As fathers ourselves, it was very important to us that the series acts as a platform for kids and parents to discover new books that they will then read together, in hardcopy, over and over.
Our guinea pigs were our own daughters, who both had copies of YOLO! somewhere in their bookshelves, gathering dust. After watching the proof-of-concept pilot, we individually found our daughters reading through their hardcopies of YOLO! that had been pulled out of the graveyard of forgotten books. The extra context provided by Mango and Papa breathed new life into a tired book!
And the real kicker: Our daughters were humming the Book in a Nook theme song!
But don’t just take our word for it. Here are some messages from close friends, sent soon after they showed their kids the pilot:

CREATORS
Paul Thurwachter is a Los Angeles-based animator and video editor. Nicolas Chevaillier is a Berlin-based screenwriter and filmmaker. Paul and Nicolas have worked together and made each other laugh for nearly two decades. After having kids of their own, they both individually discovered the absolute joy of reading to their respective daughters, Miyu and Leela. They enjoyed all of it; the voice acting, the little giggles, the deep talks that followed. The idea for Book in a Nook was born. Paul voices Papa, Leela voices Mango.
